Begin anywhere.

Architecture is not only a matter of celebrated buildings. It also appears in the width of a doorway, the meeting of two materials and the patch of shelter beside a street. This collection looks at ordinary relationships before grand explanations. You do not need specialist vocabulary to begin.

Prompt 01

Look at the ground floor

The part of a building nearest the pavement often tells you most about how it meets daily life.

Prompt 02

Notice a transition

Move from an open square to a smaller street and watch the scale change. Respect private thresholds.

Prompt 03

Describe before researching

A clear account of what is visible is a useful starting point. Dates and explanations can come later.

Before you go

A little less planning.
A little more noticing.
